Salome's marriage to Ralph, a man thirty years her senior, was considered scandalous. While she lead a life of fun and leisure with Ralph, and their surprising divorce left her financially secure, it's not what she desires. When Salome looks into selling her apartment, she finds that her neighbor is Mike Angellini, a world-famous restaurateur who has always given her the cold shoulder. High society thinks Salome was a paid mistress, but she wants Mike to know the truth. Having donated all her money to charity, Salome wishes to put the past behind her, but will she find Mike's menu to be too appetizing?

Backblurb:A neighborly affair?
Salome was still reeling from the heartbreak and anger of the sudden ending of her marriage. She hadn't accepted anything from her former husband except an apartment that had become her only refuge. Until neighbor Mike Angellini--if you could call an enemy a neighbor--threatened to invade her peace.
The man meant trouble! He'd only asked her out to dinner, but the wealthy Sydney restauranteur had always had an aggravating effect on Salome. She couldn't stand his attitude--he still assumed she was a gold digger. And now he made her wonder if she'd ever really been in love....

My thoughts:
This is one of Lee's earlier Presents title. I admit that I prefer her more recent stuff. Don't get me wrong; it still had Lee's trademark sensuality. The one night of wild monkey sex in the book was smoking.
However, altho the heroine was unusual: a divorcee who was still heart-broken over her split with an old fart THIRTY YEARS OLDER than she was, she was also seriously lacking the confidence that characterize Lee's usual heroine. I usually find that aspect one of the most appealing traits of her writing. The heroine had so many moments of self-doubt and changed her mind from indecision so many times that I began to have whiplash. It very much reminded me of a trademark Penny Jordan novel. (There is a reason why I don't read Penny Jordan anymore.)
Most of ML's Presents happen over a very short period of time and this is no exception. From start of the bk to resolution, it covers a period of two days. Normally, I don't mind everything happening so fast but since I don't trust the heroine in this one to know her own mind, I am more doubtful of the HEA than usual.

Everyone-including Salome's new neighbor, Mike Angellini-believes she'd married and divorced Ralph for his money. But if Mike's branded her a gold digger, why has he invited her to dinner? And why does Salome accept?
